Why blog?

I like blogs that tell a compelling story, that are candid glimpses behind the scenes of interesting people or places. I like blogs that are serialized features about things or people that I can care deeply about. I like blogs that make me smarter, make me laugh, and make me think.

I like to blog because it is a practice of observation and reflection, I process better and understand more when I blog. I like to blog because it initiates useful conversations with really smart caring people. I like to blog because it documents a time and a place.

When I accepted the role to help launch Jade Ribbon Arizona, I knew I wanted to blog the experience but it took the last six weeks for me to understand what this blog would be about. It is not a survivor’s blog or a CEO blog. It is a campaign blog. The compelling story for me is the story of competent and caring people organizing and focusing their efforts to save the lives of people they do not (yet) know.

So, welcome to the Jade Ribbon Arizona Blog where I will endeavor to present a behind the scenes glimpse into a hepatitis B testing and vaccination campaign. I invite you to read and join in the conversation and to remember this one thing. If you were born outside of the United States or to foreign-born parents, get tested and vaccinated for hepatitis B virus. Remember, one in ten Asians and Pacific Islanders are chronically infected with hepatitis B virus.

There is a test, there is a vaccine, and there is treatment. Thanks for reading.
